BREAKING: NBA Insider Claims Andrew Wiggins Could Be An Ideal Fit On The Lakers

NBA Insider Jovan Buha was convinced that Andrew Wiggins could be the answer to the Lakers’ frontcourt depth issues.

NBA Insider Jovan Buha believed that Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins could be the solution for the Los Angeles Lakers’ problems in the frontcourt. While speaking on an episode of his podcast, “Buha’s Block”, the reporter shared why Wiggins could be the ideal fit for the Purple and Gold.

About a potential trade idea, seeing Rui Hachimura head over to the Heat in exchange for the Heat forward, he said, “I like that trade… I know Wiggins has been a popular guy for Lakers Twitter. He is someone that I think, among the realistic options, he is someone that would check a lot of boxes for the Lakers.”

Needless to say, the Purple and Gold would be required to pair up more assets in this trade, potentially sending Gabe Vincent or Jarred Vanderbilt over, but the result could still be quite beneficial for the team.

The hypothetical trade scenario with the Heat certainly does have a lot of merit.

Hachimura’s $18.2 million on the way out would certainly make it easier to absorb Wiggins’ $28.2 million cap hit next season.

Wiggins has not been among the names rumored to be linked with the Lakers. Considering how aggressive the team has been in the offseason market for wing depth and big men, they have shown an interest in a large variety of players.

A common trend, particularly for perimeter players, has seen them linked with three-point shooters with defensive upside. In this regard, players such as De’Anthony Melton and Nickeil Alexander-Walker have garnered a lot of attention.

But the potential to acquire a player like Wiggins would have a much more significant impact on the team’s overall structure.

The Heat forward has been an NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors, not as a role player, but as a legitimate star for the team.

His incredible athletic ability gives him enough flexibility on the offensive end, while his length allows him to guard multiple positions as well.

Wiggins went over to the Heat as part of the trade that helped the Warriors land Jimmy Butler, effectively restructuring the franchise.

While the trade was highly beneficial for Golden State, Miami didn’t necessarily enjoy the same success in the East.

After being swept in the first round by the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was clear that there were going to be changes in Miami. With Pat Riley also indicating a shake-up, a roster overhaul remains a possibility.

With this in mind, the team could look to stack expiring contracts like Hachimura and Vincent to clear up cap space for the next season.

Meanwhile, the Lakers could acquire a solid third or fourth option, who averaged 18.0 points and 4.5 rebounds on 37.4% shooting from beyond the arc.

The notion of pairing Wiggins with Lakers star Luka Doncic is also exciting.

With the 29-year-old forward in his prime, the Purple and Gold can match the timeline for success with Doncic running the show.
