The Kansas City Chiefs have been at the top of the NFL mountain for the past several years, and fans are hoping it stays that way. To stay consistently dominant, the Chiefs not only have to have a superstar quarterback (which they do in Patrick Mahomes), excellent coaching (thanks to Andy Reid), and hope that a lot breaks their way, but they also have to have a well-put-together roster.
The Chiefs don’t have a ton of weaknesses on their roster, but considering how violent the sport of football is, injuries are going to happen. Which position—aside from quarterback, obviously—would put the Chiefs in the most danger if they were to get hit hard in one spot?
Well, that would have to be the safety position. After losing Justin Reid to free agency, the Chiefs opted not to sign anyone to replace him, and those aren’t small shoes to fill by any means. Mike Edwards and Deon Bush aren’t starting-caliber, so if an injury were to occur to Bryan Cook, Chamarri Conner, or Jaden Hicks, that’d be a significant blow to the secondary considering how often the Chiefs are in three-safety looks.
Injuries at safety could make it difficult for Chiefs to make it back to Super Bowl in 2025
Safety might not be the sexiest position in the NFL, but like all other positions, it’s an important one, and the Chiefs didn’t do much to protect themselves from injuries. Losing Reid was a big blow, even off the field as well, and the Chiefs still had the draft to try and add some help there, but they decided not to.
Hopefully, this doesn’t end up being an issue for the Chiefs. Fortunately, the three aforementioned players have managed to avoid the injury bug since entering the league. Let’s hope that continues to be the case moving forward and that Kansas City’s lack of safety movement in the offseason doesn’t come back to bite them.
