The Golden State Warriors experienced a heartfelt reunion on Wednesday when they faced off against the Dallas Mavericks at Chase Center. This game was particularly significant, as it marked Klay Thompson’s first encounter with his former team and his “Splash Brother,” Stephen Curry, since he joined the Mavericks in the offseason.

The matchup was intense, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. The Warriors ultimately clinched a 120-117 victory over Thompson and the Mavericks, with Curry’s eye-catching performance leading the way.

This win elevated the Warriors to a strong 9-2 record, positioning them at the top of the West Group C standings. Meanwhile, the Mavericks, with Thompson now in their ranks, saw their record slip to 5-6.

Stephen Curry Leads Warriors To Win Over Former Teammate Klay Thompson And The Mavericks

Stephen Curry didn’t hold back in his first game against his former “Splash Brother,” Klay Thompson. While he admitted that facing Thompson felt strange, Curry put on a stellar performance, finishing with a game-high 37 points. His crucial 3-pointer with just 27.5 seconds left in the game gave the Warriors a four-point lead, helping secure the 120-117 win.

Curry’s performance also earned him a new record. According to StatMamba, he is now the oldest point guard in NBA history to post back-to-back 30-point games. Curry added six rebounds and nine assists to his 37-point total in his 35 minutes on the floor.

Jonathan Kuminga contributed 16 points and five rebounds, making him the Warriors’ second-highest scorer of the night. De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield each added 14 points, while Draymond Green chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Andrew Wiggins rounded out the scoring with eight points.

The game was an emotional one for Thompson, as it marked his first appearance against the Warriors in a Mavericks uniform. Thompson made a strong showing, putting up 22 points on 7-17 shooting, including 6-12 from beyond the arc.

Thompson also grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists. Fans at Chase Center even had a memorable moment when both Curry and Thompson exchanged smiles and shook their heads at each other after each made a three-pointer.

Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 31 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in his 41 minutes of play, while Kyrie Irving contributed 21 points. Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II added 15 and 12 points, respectively, in the loss. The Warriors are set to host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, while the Mavericks will look to bounce back against the Utah Jazz on Thursday.
