Jayson Tatum recently signed a jaw-dropping contract with the Boston Celtics and is now one of the most highly paid athletes in the world.
But he isn’t just sitting on his fortune, he is instead attempting to use it to further women’s basketball.
According to Essence, via NBACentral, Tatum is willing to spend $200 million to bring a WNBA franchise to his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
The report said:
“Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is proving that securing your bag means lifting up your entire community. Fresh from securing the NBA’s largest contract in history, Tatum has reportedly set his sights on a $200 million bid to bring a WNBA franchise to St. Louis – a decision that could reshape the landscape of women’s professional basketball in the Midwest.”

The WNBA is more popular than ever before so now is the time for Tatum to get in the game and try to expand it.
He has plenty of cash to spend after earning a five-year, $315 million contract in the summer.
Plus, he has a lot of hometown pride and would love to see the WNBA set up shop in St. Louis.
Tatum isn’t on his own with this venture and has teamed up with business leaders Richard Chaifetz and David Hoffman, who are bringing together investors to try and drum up more money and interest.
The WNBA is looking to get even bigger and recently made a rule change that allows NBA stars to take ownership stakes in teams.
Because of the cash he has, the people he is working with, and his immense popularity, Tatum might succeed in bringing a WNBA team to St. Louis.
He’s already done so much for Boston and now he’s trying to do something big for the city he hails from.
