Hunter Dobbins caught the attention of Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the New York Yankees infielder spoke his mind about it throughout the day Sunday.
Dobbins said he had his start against the Yankees circled on his calendar because his dad was a big Boston Red Sox fan. But when the rookie pitcher noted to the Boston Herald that he would would retire before playing for the Yankees, Chisholm kept that quote in his back pocket.
In top of the third inning during Sunday’s game between the Red Sox and the Yankees, Chisholm was asked about Dobbins’ comments while he was mic’d up.
“I love competitiveness,” he said. “But to say that, being a rookie, is kind of crazy to me. To say that you’re gonna rule out one out of 30 teams to be a professional athlete.”
Prior to the game, Chisholm told reporters that while he wouldn’t say something to that degree because it closes doors, he liked that it was said. He also posted to X that baseball needs more trash talk.
