Warriors Reportedly Have Jonathan Kuminga Decision Made Before Offseason

Mandatory Credit: David Gonzales-Imagn Images The official start to the NBA offseason is right around the corner and teams have some key decisions to make as they try to upgrade their rosters this summer.

Among those teams is the Golden State Warriors who reached the second round of the playoff before they were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games after Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring injury in Game 1.

Golden State now enters the offseason trying to upgrade their roster around their aging trio of Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green and they also have a key decision to make regarding their young forward Jonathan Kuminga.

Of course, Kuminga is a restricted free agent this summer and many believe that the Warriors will try to move him in a sign-and-trade deal after he was in and out of Steve Kerr’s rotation after adding Butler at the trade deadline.

Despite this, it seems as though the Warriors may have already made their decision regarding Kuminga after a recent report was released.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole, the Warriors are very likely to hang onto Kuminga this summer and they are not expected to move him.

This is a very surprising report after Kuminga had entered trade rumors after being benched by Kerr along with Kerr’s comments a few weeks ago about how Kuminga may continue to be out of the rotation.

Despite this, it seems as though the Warriors will keep Kuminga this summer but they could still look to move him in a potential trade either later in the offseason or before next season’s trade deadline.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr talks to forward Jonathan Kuminga.

Of course, Kuminga is still only 22 years old and he has shown flashes of potential, but his game requires him to have the ball in his hands, which is not the case with Curry and Butler leading the way in The Bay.

While that may be the case, it looks like the Warriors are set to keep Kuminga this summer but don’t be surprised if they eventually move him via trade to upgrade their roster.
