Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will be returning to television screens this weekend as he joins TNT Sports’ coverage of the Champions League final as a pundit. The former Rangers and Aston Villa manager has been out of full-time management since leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq at the beginning of the year.

The Reds icon has been in the headlines more recently following intense links over a return to Ibrox, to take over the Gers. Gerrard has been back in Liverpool for the Premier Leaguecrowning moment for Arne Slot’s side and was featured prominently during Sky Sports’ coverage of the final day encounter with Crystal Palace.

But he has landed a role back with the UK sports broadcaster for this weekend’s elite European showpiece in Munich, Germany.

TNT Sports confirmed that Gerrard will be joining the coverage of Inter Milan vs Paris Saint-Germain, where he will be alongside Rio Ferdinand – who announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving the broadcaster at the end of the season, when his contract expires.

The Reds icon has featured regularly on television since retiring, enjoying a spell on the BT Sports panel for their European coverage.

But now has been consigned to sporadic appearances during his time in and out of management.

Gerrard will be shoulder-to-shoulder with the Champions League trophy during the landmark year since the Reds famously won their fifth crown.

The former captain starred in their historic comeback win over AC Milan at Istanbul and Gerrard features in prominently in a recent TNT Sports documentary telling the story of the miracle in Turkey.

It has been widely reported that the former Liverpool midfielder could be set for a return to management with Rangers reportedly eyeing a reunion with their Scottish Premiership-winning tactician.

TalkSPORT’s Jim White previously claimed that the 44-year-old was edging closer to becoming the new manager and bringing another former Liverpool midfielder in Jordan Henderson in as his assistant.

“Now we understand here this morning at talkSPORT that behind the scenes, the managerial situation is moving at a pace,” the presenter said.

“The interim manager Barry Ferguson will be leaving with thanks but back to the football club will come Steven Gerrard, former manager of the club – the man who won them the Scottish Premier League title.

“Alongside Gerrard, a hugely popular figure Steven Davis and alongside the two of them as an assistant to Gerrard and Davis, Jordan Henderson.

“He would also be an assistant in there as well.”
