Looking at the Kansas City Chiefs’ depth chart, there isn’t any question that one veteran’s job is very much in jeopardy. In a brutal league, losing your job to injury is a stark reality, and that may be the exact position Skyy Moore finds himself in. The receiver came into OTAs in great shape, clearly understanding the importance of the summer if his career is going to continue. A lot of this could depend on whether or not the team can fully trust the return of Rashee Rice. if the receiver is able to return as expected, and a suspension isn’t looming, Moore’s spot is very much in jeopardy.

A big piece of this is an incredible performance from rookie receiver Jalen Royals. The receiver’s early push up the depth chart is pushing back all of the Kansas City depth options down a spot. For Moore, this means the veteran is fighting to keep his roster spot, facing the very real possibility of his career in Kansas City coming to an end.

Jalen Royals’ Emergence Puts Skyy Moore’s Kansas City Roster Spot in Jeopardy

Rookie Jalen Royals has demanded early Chiefs headlines with his surprise performance. This is what was expected from Moore or Justyn Ross when the current Chiefs receivers first joined the franchise. Having an instant impact and fitting in with the best head coach and quarterback in the league. Part of the frustrating reality of the business, however, means that this is going to cost someone their roster spot.

At the very least, it seems Royals has pushed Moore down to the bottom of the depth chart, if not off the roster completely. With that said, we are in the first week of June with long weeks ahead of training camp and the preseason. This can very quickly change, and the battle is far from over.

Even if Royals has the decided advantage for now, the rookie doesn’t have the experience of Moore. That is going to count both for and against the Kansas City receiver as the team attempts to evaluate the unknown with Royals. Regardless, it is a fascinating battle to keep a close eye on as the summer continues.
