Golden State Warriors Named Favorites to Land Timberwolves Star in Offseason

The Golden State Warriors‘ season came to an unfortunate end at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Months of seemingly do-or-die games for the Warriors finally took their toll when Stephen Curry injured his hamstring in Game 1 after a quick turnaround from the prior series against the Houston Rockets.

At one point in the season, the Warriors fell as low as the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference. Desperate to make a move, General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. pulled the trigger on a blockbuster trade that sent Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and a top-10 protected first-round pick to the Miami Heat as part of a five-team trade for Jimmy Butler.

The Warriors had to make up for lost time with Butler and went on a 23-7 run with him in the lineup. Even before the injury to Curry, Golden State’s weaknesses were on full display, particularly their lack of height.

The Warriors will likely look to address those needs in the offseason. Jonathan Kuminga is one of their best and most likely avenues to do so. As a result, the Warriors are favored to land the Minnesota Timberwolves’ big man, Naz Reid, according to Bovada Sportsbook.

Reid averaged 14.2 points per game after winning the Sixth Man of the Year award in the 2023-24 season. The Warriors are +175 favorites to land Reid, an implied probability of 36.36%. The Brooklyn Nets are close behind at +220 and the Charlotte Hornets are +285.

Reid would be a good fit in the Warriors’ lineup. While he won’t have a player like Rudy Gobert anchoring the spot next to or behind him, his skillset, toughness and playoff experience is precisely what the Warriors need.

The Warriors are likely going to go all-in next season, as Curry would turn 38 years old in March of next year. It’s also worth noting that, as of writing, Head Coach Steve Kerr isn’t under contract beyond next season.
