Chelsea legend Didier Drogba revealed as he named the one Arsenal player who has truly impressed him this season — and it’s neither Declan Rice nor Merino.

In a surprising admission that’s caught the attention of football fans everywhere, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has revealed his admiration for one current Arsenal player — and it’s a name that might catch many off guard.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, the Ivorian icon was asked about his views on the current Premier League season and which players have stood out to him. While Drogba famously made a career out of tormenting Arsenal during his Chelsea days, he admitted that one player in Mikel Arteta’s squad has truly grabbed his attention.

“I’m not usually a fan of Arsenal players, but there’s one in the current squad who’s really impressed me this season,” Drogba told reporters. “In all my years in football, I’ve rarely witnessed a player as fiercely aggressive, relentless, and dangerous in front of goal as this one. He reminds me a lot of Frank Lampard during his peak years at Chelsea.”

While many expected Drogba to name Declan Rice or even new arrival Martín Zubimendi, the former striker shocked the room by singling out Kai Havertz as the Arsenal star he rates so highly.

“Havertz has found another level this season,” Drogba continued. “His late runs into the box, his finishing, and his hunger to be at the right place at the right time — it’s pure instinct. He’s not just playing as a forward, he’s becoming the kind of goalscoring midfielder that every top side dreams of having.”

Havertz, who arrived at Arsenal from Chelsea amid mixed reactions last season, has silenced critics with a string of outstanding performances, scoring crucial goals and becoming a pivotal figure in Arsenal’s title challenge.

Drogba’s praise comes as a surprise given his intense rivalry with Arsenal during his playing days, but his words carry weight as someone who knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
