Darwin Núñez Future in Doubt as Liverpool Explore Wirtz Swap Deal
Darwin Núñez’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain, with growing interest in the Uruguayan striker from both European clubs and the Saudi Pro League ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to David Ornstein, Núñez is one of several players who could leave Anfield in the coming months, especially as Liverpool look to fund a high-profile move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Liverpool have made an initial official offer for the 22-year-old German international, reportedly worth over €100 million.
Swap Deal on the Table?
Sources close to Empire of the Kop suggest that Núñez is open to a fresh start, and his representatives are already exploring potential destinations.
One option Liverpool are currently evaluating is a player-plus-cash swap deal involving Núñez and Wirtz, which could significantly reduce the fee required for the German playmaker, who is valued between €130m and €150m.
If that swap deal falls through, Núñez won’t be short of suitors. Atlético Madrid, Napoli, and several top Saudi clubs — including Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli — are all monitoring his situation.
With just seven goals in 47 appearances this past season, questions have emerged over the striker’s long-term role under new head coach Arne Slot. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes may view this as the ideal moment to cash in on the 25-year-old, who turns 26 next month.
While Liverpool’s primary strategy appears to be a cash bid for Wirtz, including Núñez in the deal could become a serious option if the valuation gap proves too wide.
For now, much hinges on whether Núñez would be willing to join Leverkusen and whether the Bundesliga side would be interested in the Uruguay international. Regardless, it’s a transfer saga that looks set to heat up in the weeks ahead.
