The Kansas City Chiefs went 15-2 in the 2024 season on their way to the Super Bowl, and the team was 11-0 in games that ended with a score differential of seven or less.

In a recent article by ESPN’s Ben Solak, he puts together a list of 100 things to know heading into the 2025 season. And he makes a bold prediction that the Chiefs are not going to be able to continue that trend and will be worse this season.

“Everyone is too afraid, so I’ll be the guy to say it: The Chiefs were 11-0 in one-score games last season, and they’re not going to pull that off again. (Right?),” Solar said half-jokingly. “The defensive depth chart is pretty rough as well.

“They’re going to be worse in 2025. (Right?!)”

The Buffalo Bills gave the Chiefs their first loss of the year in Week 10, then the team’s only loss the rest of the season came in Week 17 against the Denver Broncos, where the Chiefs played virtually none of their starters.

The most notable games that ended with the Chiefs narrowly winning were in Weeks 1 and 9 against the Baltimore Ravens and Broncos, respectively. The first ended with Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely missing a game-tying touchdown by a shoe size, and the second saw the Chiefs winning after a blocked field goal.

Patrick Mahomes and company fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl this past season, so they will be looking to continue to win close games and get back to the big game.

And to us, that’s a factor that ESPN might be overlooking here: Is Mahomes lucky? Or good enough to look lucky?
