Here’s the latest Chicago Bulls news, including a quick mock draft roundup, a potential Lonzo Ball-Cooper Flagg pairing and more rumors/trade ideas linking Chicago with Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga.
Recent Bulls mock drafts
South Carolina forward Collin Murray-Boyles seems to be the overwhelming favorite for draft experts with the June 25 event less than a month away. As a defense-first forward, he would make sense for Chicago, which was one of the worst teams in the NBA on that end of the court last season.
Murray-Boyles isn’t the most offensively gifted prospect, although his strength and soft touch give him a floor as an interior option.
Multiple Bleacher Report mock drafts and one via the Sports Illustrated Draft Digest crew have linked the Bulls with Murray-Boyles with the No. 12 pick.
Lonzo Ball, Dallas Mavericks trade rumors
The Dallas Mavericks lucked into the No. 1 pick (which almost belonged to Chicago) and the opportunity to reset the franchise around Duke phenom Cooper Flagg. Anthony Davis will be the Mavs’ go-to player at the start of next season, but without Kyrie Irving for a good chunk of 2025-26, Dallas is missing a point guard.
Enter Lonzo Ball, who re-upped with the Bulls on a two-year, $20 million contract at last season’s trade deadline. The second year is a team option, however, which essentially makes it a one-year deal worth $10 million. It’s one of the league’s easiest contracts to trade.
Put those two things together and you get a report from NBA insider Marc Stein (h/t Bleacher Report), who relays Dallas’s interest in the veteran point guard. Stein adds that the Mavericks are also looking into deals for Chris Paul and Jrue Holiday, but given his contract and tradeability, Ball is a logical fit.
More Jonathan Kuminga-Chicago Bulls links
Even before the Warriors were eliminated from the playoffs, there was increasing scuttlebutt surrounding Jonathan Kuminga and the Bulls. Chicago needs the type of player Kuminga is, and Golden State doesn’t want to pay the 22-year-old what he desires.
Given his status as a restricted free agent—not unlike Bulls guard Josh Giddey—a sign-and-trade would be the smartest way to get Kuminga out the door. That is indeed what the most recent reports indicate is the most likely scenario.
Kuminga’s age, developmental curve and archetype as a big wing all make sense on Chicago’s roster, and the Bulls have enough matching salaries to get a deal done.
