Kadarius Toney is trying to make amends with his former quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs after their ugly split.
The NFL has a short lifespan for the average player, and sometimes an athlete doesn’t know how good he has it until he is out of the league.
At this stage in the offseason, some veteran players are in this boat and stuck waiting for any opportunity to continue their careers.
Sometimes they never get that call, with either past performances, injury risk, or attitude problems being team’s main concerns.

Free agent receiver Kadarius Toney doesn’t know where his next NFL home will be, but as he enters this offseason, he is trying to make amends with one of his former teams after an ugly split.
The Kansas City Chiefs traded for Toney midway through the 2022 season to bolster their dynamic receiving corps for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
It didn’t take long for the young receiver to get excited about playing with one of the game’s best passers.
“The moment I realized that, like one practice… The man threw a crazy pass. I’m like, ‘yeah, he’s different,'” Toney said on the “New Rory & Mal” podcast.
“I ain’t never seen nobody doing like. They’re not even playing an overall video, and it was on the money. But our chemistry started when I first got there.”
That chemistry, unfortunately, did not reach anywhere near full potential with the Chiefs. Toney struggled to stay on the field after dealing with ankle and hip injuries.
From 2022-23, Toney only played in 20 regular season games for KC, totaling 41 receptions for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
Toney’s attitude on and off the field often led to trouble, which soured his relationship with the Chiefs organization.
The last straw was when he called out the team for lying about his injuries in a social media rant. Although he claimed that was targeted to his former New York Giants team, KC had seen and heard enough.
The former first-round pick in 2021 was cut before the 2024 season.
The troubled receiver would play on his third team in two seasons after getting picked up by the Cleveland Browns, but only seeing action in three games and bringing in zero receptions last season.
It is nice that the former Chief is trying to get back in the good graces of the organization, but we strongly doubt that will lead to any last-chance opportunity on the 2025 roster.
The receiver may still have great young talent to offer a team this season, but he’ll need to work to regain trust around the league before he runs out of chances to play.
Kansas City will begin their next phase of the offseason with OTA workouts this week.
