Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled to deliver consistent performances up front, prompting manager Ruben Amorim to explore more reliable alternatives.

Mateta, whose contract with Crystal Palace is set to expire in the summer of 2026, will enter its final year in July. The Frenchman has yet to commit to a new deal with the London club and is expected to wait for firm offers before making a decision on his future. He is particularly mindful that the 2025/26 season could be crucial for his aspirations to represent France in the next World Cup.

The former Mainz striker had a slow start in England but has thrived under manager Oliver Glasner.
