Big Report: Dodgers Rookie Turning Into Key Piece of Bullpen

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a season full of bad news regarding their pitching staff.

From 14 pitchers currently on the injured list, to being tied for the eighth-highest team ERA in baseball, there have been few bright spots.

Rookie right-hander Ben Casparius, on the other hand, has proved to be someone who has shined in big moments and made the most of his opportunities in a Dodgers uniform.

With a 2.94 ERA across 33.2 innings in 2025, Casparius has shown tons of promise in a struggling bullpen.

Manager Dave Roberts spoke on his rookie reliever’s success, and specifically when he entered a game and subsequently got out of a two-out, bases-loaded situation last week against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“It was big. I just felt that it was the right spot for him,” Roberts said. “We’re obviously putting him in a lot of high-leverage spots. And he’s answered every opportunity the right way.”

Casparius briefly started his MLB career with three appearances at the end of last season, and then made another four in October, including eating valuable innings in the World Series amid the pitching roster’s injuries. Even in 2025, he has shown the ability to play wherever and whenever he is needed, as his skipper acknowledged his flexibility.

“The role for him is sort of ever-evolving,” Roberts said. “But given where we’re at in the ‘pen and losing guys, his role needed to change, and he’s now just a high-leverage guy. I said hybrid a week ago, something like that. He could still do multiples, but I didn’t hesitate going to him in that spot [against the Diamondbacks].”

Trust is an extremely important asset in The Show, and with the current state of the Dodgers’ pitching roster, there is perhaps no area where that trait is more valued. If Casparius can keep up his production, even after the pitching injuries (hopefully) subside, his future will be very bright in Los Angeles.
