Forgotten Chiefs Receiver May End Up as OTA Standout

This week, multiple teams kicked off the first phase of Organized Team Activities (OTAs). OTAs are three phases, giving coaches a look at how rookies and veterans are shaping up before training camp. The Kansas City Chiefs begin their first phase of OTAs on May 27, which runs through May 29, with the final phase ending on June 13.

For the Chiefs, OTAs are an important proving ground not just for rookies but also for veterans fighting to stay relevant. One player that fits that bill for the Chiefs is wide receiver Skyy Moore.

Skyy Moore Could Be Poised For a Breakout OTA Session

Based on name value alone, it’s hard to call Moore a forgotten player. The 24-year-old is a former second-round pick, so Chiefs fans know who he is. However, Moore has become a forgotten player in the offense due to his drop issues.

Last season, he spent most of the year on injured reserve with a core muscle injury. Though Moore had plenty of chances to be activated, the Chiefs chose to keep him inactive during the playoff run. Instead, their fifth and sixth receivers were Nikko Remigio and Justin Watson.

Heading into OTAs next week, Moore will be competing for targets with rookie Jalen Royals, Justyn Ross and Remigio. Despite Royals, this year’s fourth-round pick, being the main competition for Moore, he shouldn’t look past the other two.

As a result, he will have to evaluate his game over the next three weeks to put himself in a good spot for training camp and the preseason. What that looks like for the 24-year-old is showing he has reliable hands when targeted and being able to provide value on special teams.

If Moore is unable to accomplish that, he may be out of a job. Nevertheless, be on the lookout for the 24-year-old, who is entering a contract season, to have a breakout OTAs.
