If you were a Chiefs fan during the days of head coach Dick Vermeil, you probably remember wide receiver Samie Parker.
Kansas City drafted Parker out of Oregon in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He was easily the second best player that the Chiefs selected that year, behind Hall of Fame defensive end Jared Allen, who they picked later in the same round.
After a quiet rookie season, Parker stepped up in 2005 and 2006, catching 77 passes for 1,094 yards and four touchdowns during that two-year span. In an offense that featured running backs Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson, as well as Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez, that’s pretty good production from Parker.
Parker bounced around with several teams after parting ways with K.C. in 2008, and had stints in the UFL and AFL. He then broke into coaching at MidAmerica Nazarene University, located roughly 30 minutes away from Kansas City in Olathe, Kansas.
In 2016 and 2018, Parker was a coaching intern with the Chiefs, working with WRs such as Tyreek Hill, Jeremy Maclin, and Sammy Watkins. Parker is now in his first season as the WRs coach at Delaware State. As posted on his X (Twitter) timeline, Parker has spent the last few days scouting players at several high schools throughout the K.C. Metro Area, including the following:
- Lees Summit High School
- Oak Park High School
- North Kansas City High School
- Raytown South High School
- Liberty North High School
- Lees Summit West High School
- Blue Springs South High School
