Warriors Are Reportedly Already Preparing to Trade for Celtics Star

One-on-one with Derrick White: “We just got a bunch of guys that are focused on the same thing” - CelticsBlog

After the Golden State Warriors were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves, it was clear that Stephen Curry could use more help. Without Curry on the floor, the Warriors looked like a shell of a team.

Plenty of possible options have already been suggested. Both Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been talked about a lot.

There is another intriguing trade target Golden State could consider pursuing. In that scenario, the Warriors would be pursuing a major trade with the Boston Celtics.

Heading into the offseason, the future of the Celtics is very much in question. With new ownership in town, Boston is expected to explore cost-cutting moves. That could leave a star or two available in trade discussions.

According to Logan Murdock on the Zach Lowe Show, as shared by NBA Central on X, Golden State is looking at the idea of trading for Celtics’ guard Derrick White.

“Another guy that I think you should look at for the Warriors going forward is Derrick White,” he said. “I think that’s something the Warriors are looking at right now.”

White would be a very intriguing addition for the Warriors. He has been an integral part of the success Boston has had in recent years. In addition, he would take a lot of pressure off of Curry in the back-court.

During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Celtics, White played in 76 games. He averaged 16.4 points per game to go along with 4.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 0.9 steals. White also shot 44.2 percent from the floor and 38.4 percent from three-point range.

Adding those numbers to the lineup would be a nice step in the right direction for Golden State.

In order to land White, the Warriors would likely have to give up some decent value. However, he would not cost the same as pursuing another Boston star like Jaylen Brown.

At 30 years old, White is in the prime of his career and is playing his best basketball. Golden State would be getting a player with championship experience who would fit their current window and help them pursue another ring while Curry is still playing at an elite level.

Expect to hear a lot of rumors about the Warriors heading into the offseason. White is one name to keep a close eye on.
