After concluding her mega tour, The Eras Tour — which transformed into the most successful music tour in history — Taylor Swift has largely stepped away from the public eye. Following the final concerts in December in Vancouver, the Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department made only two official public appearances: at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2 and via a video message at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 17. Although she was nominated in as many as six categories, she didn’t win a single Grammy (a sort of robbery), though some consolation might be found in her role as a presenter. On the other hand, the iHeartRadio Music Awards showered Taylor with accolades — the most flattering being the naming of The Eras Tour as the Tour of the Century.
An Incredibly Busy Artist
Given her retreat from the spotlight (except for an unofficial appearance at the Super Bowl on February 8, where she was seen cheering), many are wondering what’s next for the world’s only true music megastar. Some have even speculated that The Eras Tour marked a kind of farewell, and that her fame will soon fade. That, of course, couldn’t be further from the truth. Based on publicly available information, it’s clear that Taylor is very busy — in fact, one of the busiest artists today. It’s only a matter of time before her new projects see the light of day.
2025: The Year of the Re-recordings
Roughly five to six musical and film projects are expected to hit the market in 2025 or 2026. First and foremost are the re-recordings of the two remaining albums Taylor has yet to reclaim: Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and her debut album Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version). These re-recordings are being released in a carefully planned sequence, much like her original albums. In 2021, the first two re-recordings — Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) — were released, followed by Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2023. Her new albums Midnights and TTPD were released in 2022 and 2024, respectively. It is evident that 2025 is reserved for the long-anticipated re-releases. These are certain to happen, as Swift aims to reclaim full rights over her music, which also aligns with copyright constraints in the U.S. music industry (October of this year). The exact release dates remain the subject of much speculation among fans.
The Importance of the “Reputation” and “Debut” Re-recordings
Both Taylor Swift’s debut album and Reputation hold a special place in her discography. Her debut album from 2006 laid the foundation for her career and slowly launched her into stardom. At the time, the 16-year-old singer-songwriter became a sensation in the country genre thanks to her youth and remarkable songs that captivated audiences with their honesty, emotion, and extraordinary storytelling. Tracks like “Tim McGraw,” “Teardrops on My Guitar,” and “A Place in This World” began to win over both fans and critics.
On the other hand, Reputation was released in 2017 during one of the most difficult periods of her career, when she was under constant media and public attack due to a falsely imposed image of being a liar and manipulator. Reputation quite literally restored her reputation, which is why many consider it the most important album of her career. It rebranded her from the “girl next door” to a “bad bitch.”
Fans are particularly eager for the Reputation re-recording due to its dark, rebellious image and the promise of previously unreleased songs. However, it’s reasonable to assume that the debut album might hold even greater value, as Taylor’s voice has significantly matured and strengthened over the past 19 years. Hearing those early tracks in a new vocal interpretation — along with some previously unreleased material — will be an experience. These re-recordings will bring closure to the chapter of her first six studio albums.
The Eras Tour Documentary
In addition to the re-recordings, it’s 100% certain that a new documentary on The Eras Tour will be released in the near future. Although two concert films have already seen global success, another Eras Tour film is on the horizon — there’s no shortage of material. Filming was confirmed during the final concerts in Canada, where cameras, drones, and other production equipment were clearly visible. Behind-the-scenes footage had been captured earlier as well.
Swifties are eager to see what happened beyond the spotlight — how Taylor managed to flawlessly execute 149 concerts across five continents. The film might even address the tragically canceled shows in Vienna due to terrorism threats. It’s expected that the documentary will be a hybrid of a concert film and behind-the-scenes doc, especially since the previous two concert films did not feature any songs from her latest album, TTPD. Many speculate that the film will be released on the one-year anniversary of the tour’s conclusion — December 8.
TS12
It’s undeniable that Taylor Swift will release an entirely new album — her twelfth studio album, often referred to as TS12 — in the not-too-distant future. Media reports suggest that the singer and her collaborators are already deep into work on the project. There’s little doubt that the Chairman of TTPD hasn’t been able to contain her inspiration and has been writing new music during and after the tour. Several sources claim that Taylor is most creatively productive in the mornings and draws inspiration from everyday life experiences.
That TS12 is in the works was confirmed by Swedish DJ Jacob Criborn, who revealed in an April interview with Universal Music Group that “we’re just finishing Taylor Swift’s album.” Although the post was later deleted, there’s little reason to believe Criborn was lying. The question now is: what stage is TS12 in? Given the upcoming re-recordings, it’s likely that the new album will follow in 2026.
The album’s content remains the subject of wild speculation — from genre, artistic aesthetic, and lyrical themes to cover art. Every time Taylor appears in public, Swifties jump at the chance to decode potential Easter eggs. Some speculate the new album could be pop, country, a genre-blending record, or even rock. In any case, it may draw inspiration from her romantic relationship with Travis Kelce and her connections with friends.
Shanghai 2025?
Given that The Eras Tour was an extremely demanding two-year tour, many assumed that Taylor would not hold new concerts for some time. However, as early as January, reports emerged that preliminary talks had taken place between representatives of the city of Shanghai and her management about organizing a concert (or concerts) in the Chinese metropolis. During the Eras Tour, Taylor did not visit China, despite having millions of fans there — a curious omission. Leaders in Shanghai, the entertainment capital of East Asia, are eager to welcome the world’s most popular star. Zhang Qi, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, expressed optimism about the potential concerts, emphasizing that the final decision would depend on market conditions and the city’s appeal.
So far, there has been no official statement from Swift’s management. However, it is entirely possible that several concerts could be held outside the framework of any official tour.
First Feature Film
Although not among the first projects expected to be released, it seems likely that Taylor will one day debut her first full-length feature film. Back in December 2022, it was confirmed that she had written the screenplay for a film she will direct herself, to be produced by Searchlight Pictures. Her talent as a director has already been proven through her self-directed music videos (13 so far), especially the short film version of the “All Too Well” music video. The feature film hasn’t begun production yet — as far as we know — due to other ongoing projects, but there is little doubt it will eventually be made. It’s a logical next step in her artistic journey. The film is expected to be unconventional and rich in deep emotional life lessons.
The Queen of Surprises
All the mentioned projects are what we can realistically expect from Taylor Swift in the near future. But as an unconventional artist, she has always surprised her fans — so it’s safe to assume that more unexpected releases are on the horizon. There’s no doubt that in the years to come, it will continue to be a joy to be a Swiftie, as Taylor generously rewards her fandom with brilliant creations.
