BREAKING: Dodgers Pitcher Elects to Leave Organization, Sign in KBO

Former Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa signed with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization. Gamboa signed with the Dodgers organization as an amateur free agent in 2019, but elected to leave L.A. this week.

On Wednesday, the Lotte Giants announced Gamboa as their newest signee. This season, the left-hander went 0-2 with a 4.19 ERA in eight games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He made two starts during his third season at Triple-A.

The 28-year-old was promoted from Double-A to Triple-A in 2023 following a strong performance to open the season, going 7-0 with a 2.25 ERA across 36 innings with the Tulsa Drillers.

In 2024, Gamboa went 3-6 with a 3.30 ERA in 22 games (12 starts) with OKC. Across 73.2 innings, he threw 51 strikeouts and allowed 31 walks.

Given the plethora of pitching depth in the Dodgers organization, it’s extremely difficult for players in the farm system to get their chance to join the big league team. Even top prospects in the L.A. organization have waited an extended period of time before getting called up.

Gamboa perhaps felt he had the best chance of continuing his career overseas, as he’d have a better chance of showcasing his talents.
