The 2025 NBA offseason has started for multiple teams around the league as they look to get a head start on next season.
The Lakers are one of those squads, unfortunately, after getting bounced in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Sacramento Kings didn’t make the playoffs, and head coach Mike Brown was fired midseason. They are going to make some changes to the roster, and guard DeMar DeRozan is someone the Kings plan to have trade talks around, per Jake Fischer.
He wrote, “The focus in the California capital shifts now to what sort of dealing we could see from the Kings’ new regime.
There has been no shortage of rumbles, since the hiring of Scott Perry as general manager, that Sacramento is expected to gauge the trade market for veteran swingman DeMar DeRozan.”

Kings Will Reportedly Have Trade Talks Around DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan’s name has been connected to the Lakers for years now. Magic Johnson revealed in 2024 that Los Angeles had a deal done for DeRozan that had Kyle Kuzma getting shipped out in return during the 2021 season.
That obviously didn’t happen, but that didn’t stop the interest from both sides.
Last summer, DeRozan was a free agent, and he expressed interest in signing with the Lakers. Los Angeles also appeared to be open to the idea, but decided not to pursue him.
Instead, he signed a three-year, $74 million deal with the Kings, and less than a year later, he’s on the trade block.
The boat for him landing with the Lakers seems to have sailed away. And that was before they acquired Luka Doncic. Los Angeles needs some help in the frontcourt and likely another guard off the bench.
Those will be their priorities. Not trading players and potential assets for a 35-year-old who is past his prime.
It’ll be interesting to see where he lands, but Lakers fans shouldn’t expect to see him in Purple and Gold.
