Former Chicago Bulls star and five-time NBA champion Ron Harper is speaking out after buzz grew around his son, Dylan Harper, possibly being picked by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Following the Spurs landing the No. 2 overall pick in Monday night’s NBA Draft Lottery, many fans and analysts began linking Dylan Harper to San Antonio as a potential top selection.
The 6’6″ guard from Rutgers Scarlet Knights is widely viewed as the second-best prospect in this year’s class, just behind Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg.
But Ron Harper isn’t ready to buy into the hype just yet.
“Well wait until we hear his name call first.. nothing is guarantee,” he wrote on X.
The Spurs have a big decision to make. After moving up from the No. 8 spot to No. 2 in the lottery, they now hold both the 2nd and 14th overall picks.
While Flagg is expected to go No. 1 to the Dallas Mavericks, the Spurs could add Harper to an already young and talented core that includes Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle—both recent Rookie of the Year winners.
Dylan Harper averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game during his only college season. He stood out with his scoring skills and strong play in the Big Ten tournament, where he dropped 27 points against USC.
With less than two months until the NBA Draft, San Antonio holds the keys to one of the most exciting offseasons in recent memory. Whether they keep the pick, take Dylan Harpe or go all-in on a trade for a superstar, one thing is clear: all eyes are on the Spurs—and the Harper family.
