4 Winners (And 1 Loser) From Chiefs Rookie Minicamp in 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up rookie minicamp last week and are now turning their attention to Organized Team Activities (OTAs) at the end of May.

But before we move forward, let’s hit rewind and take a quick look at how the rookies fared.

The three-day camp featured more than 80 participants, including all seven of the Chiefs’ 2025 draft picks, a mix of undrafted free agents, veteran invitees, current roster players, and tryout hopefuls.

While players weren’t in pads and full contact was off the table, they still ran through 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills to shake off the rust and start adjusting to the pace of NFL practices. Think of it as a preseason appetizer before the full OTAs and training camp grind begins.

With that in mind, here are four winners—and one notable loser—from Kansas City’s rookie minicamp.

Winners: Jimmy Holiday (WR), Major Williams (S), Cooper McDonald (LB)

Jimmy Holiday, Major Williams, and Cooper McDonald came into rookie minicamp with everything to prove—and walked out with contracts. All three were tryout players who earned deals with the Chiefs after standing out during drills.

Each one fills a position of need for Kansas City, and no matter what happens next, securing a spot at this stage is already a win.

Holiday, a versatile weapon out of Louisiana Tech, totaled 658 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns last season. He also showed off serious wheels with a 4.40-second 40-yard dash—speed that always gets attention in Andy Reid’s offense.

Williams, a safety from small-school Carson-Newman, made plays all over the field last year. He racked up 7.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, one interception, and a forced fumble. He’s a classic underdog story—small school, big impact.

McDonald, who played at TCU, made the most of his limited action in 2024. In just nine games, he posted 25 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks. He brings good size and production to a linebacker group that could use added depth.
