So we’re just saying anything these days huh?
The most important thing to keep in mind in regards to what you’re about to read in a few seconds – and really just the internet in general – is that no one’s forcing you to take it seriously.
It’s your choice entirely. As hard as the internet may try, no one is actually forcing you to get worked up over QB rankings that, for some reason, drop in mid-May.
But if you’re absolutely dead set on starting a beautiful spring week by raising your blood pressure, CBS Sports has you covered.
They sensed an opening to have everyone angrily click on a link and flood their site with rage traffic and boy did they take it. I mean, its transparency is impressive – you almost have to respect it; the game’s the game.
The list – titled Post-draft 2025 NFL QB Power Rankings – takes a look at how every QB in the league stacks up against one another after an event that featured maybe two teams draft starting new QBs. But otherwise it’s very topical.
And once you see where they decided to rank Patrick Mahomes, it becomes very clear what the point of this whole exercise was.
CBS Sports’ new QB rankings are predictably trolly about Patrick Mahomes
CBS Sports ranking: #6
“Was Mahomes’ ugly Super Bowl showing an anomaly, or clear evidence his increasing dependence on last-minute heroics isn’t as sustainable as it once was for Kansas City? A healthier pass-catching corps should help, but his leaky O-line still has questions. There’s no denying No. 15 is still the most trustworthy signal-caller in the game, but he’s now proven vulnerable twice on the big stage.”
Choosing to write that “there’s no denying that No. 15 is still the most trustworthy signal-caller in the game,” and then listing him as the 6th-best signal-caller in the game sure is one way to approach a ranking!
Under-valuing elite players the moment people start getting bored with them is nothing new, and it certainly won’t be the last time Mahomes’ greatness is used against him. In a way, it’s a weird badge of honor.
And even outside the … dubious? … choice to rank Jayden Daniels above every other QB in football after one (1) single season, the more you look at the list, the funnier it gets. Baker Mayfield at 11? Brock Purdy above CJ Stroud?
This list reads like an extremely contrarian football writer decided to turn the schtick up to 11. It’d be a good bit if it wasn’t, you know, the most contrived bit in the history of sports discourse.
Maybe that’s the name of the game this time of year, but again: no one’s focing you to take it seriously.
Then again, if you needed to get a good, cleansing scream out to start the week, you now have a great place to start.
