At home against Osasuna this Saturday, in the 13th round of La Liga, Real Madrid made no mistakes. After a resounding 4-0 victory, here are the player ratings for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, according to our editorial team.
It was the expected response! After two frustrating defeats at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid ended their poor run with a crushing 4-0 win. Getting off to a great start with Vinícius Júnior, Ancelotti’s men rolled on thanks to Bellingham, Lunin, and Raul Asensio, who was an unexpected inclusion in this match. Here are the ratings for the Madrid players.
Andriy Lunin (6.5)
A calm and solid match for the Ukrainian goalkeeper. Back in goal for Real Madrid this Saturday, Lunin was supported by a much-improved defence compared to recent weeks. Aside from a few nervous moments, he had little to do. He did the essentials, including providing an assist for the third Madrid goal.
Antonio Rüdiger (7)
The German defender was once again the leader of the defence. Crucial in his defensive interventions, the former Chelsea player brought much-needed calm to his defensive partners. After Militão’s early departure, Rüdiger perfectly guided young Raúl Asensio, who was playing his first professional match, with a key assist.
Éder Militão (Not Rated)
Militão’s situation is truly awful. Already troubled by injury issues this season, the Brazilian defender, who started the match well on Saturday, suffered a serious injury. Taken off on a stretcher in tears at the 30th minute, Militão looks set to be out for a long time, with fears of another ACL tear, similar to last season. This would be a massive blow.
Lucas Vázquez (6)
The captain for the day didn’t let the team down. Well-positioned at the start of the match, the right-back, who is replacing Dani Carvajal for the rest of the season, injured himself just before half-time. While he gritted his teeth to finish the first half, he was substituted at the break. We are awaiting the results of his medical tests, but his effort deserves recognition as he didn’t abandon his teammates too quickly.
Fran García (6)
A good performance from the young left-back. Starting in place of Ferland Mendy this Saturday, Fran García played well. Against an attack that lacked any standout players, he contained his opponents effectively. A solid display.
Eduardo Camavinga (7)
As generous as ever, the French midfielder put in a strong performance. Very valuable in midfield, Camavinga managed to fill the void left by Aurélien Tchouaméni, who is injured and expected to be out for about a month. At 21, the young French international won back many balls in midfield, proving he is a key player for Real.
Federico Valverde (7)
Involved in a controversy with Carlo Ancelotti since last Tuesday, Valverde responded perfectly on the pitch against Osasuna. Initially deployed in a midfield trio, the Uruguayan midfielder brought a lot of energy with his fighting spirit. After Vázquez’s injury in the second half, he was repositioned as a right-back and performed excellently. Defensively and offensively, Valverde was spot on.
Jude Bellingham (7)
Finally scoring his first goal of the season, the English midfielder did his job. As usual, he didn’t disappoint. Always moving, he was hugely influential in the attacking phase. A solid performance from the former BVB player, who can now kickstart his season with this goal.
Vinícius Júnior (9)
When Vini is on form, Real Madrid is on form. This Saturday, the Brazilian player demonstrated his importance in Carlo Ancelotti’s team. As the team struggled to break through Osasuna’s defence, it was the second-place finisher in the 2024 Ballon d’Or, probably benefitting from some sloppy errors, who opened the scoring with a lovely move.
In the second half, he sealed the win for his team with another fine goal from a Lunin pass. With a hat-trick to his name, he was undoubtedly the man of the match.
Rodrygo Goes (Not Rated)
Like Militão, the Brazilian forward is going through a tough patch. Just back from another injury, Rodrygo was injured again and had to leave the field in the 20th minute. Completely dazed after this setback, the 23-year-old forward will have many questions to ask himself.
Kylian Mbappé (5)
On a dry spell for the past few weeks, the French forward tried but once again lacked success. Playing more centrally, as instructed by Thierry Henry, Mbappé stretched Osasuna’s defence. On the few occasions he had, he failed to shine.
