Has Taylor Swift changed her mind on ‘settling down’ with Travis Kelce?
Just last month rumours were swirling that Taylor Swift and her ‘fiancé-in-waiting’ Travis Kelce were set to ease off their hectic schedules over the next few months and had already discussed marriage and the pitter-patter of Kelce-Swift feet in the not-too-distant future.
However, last week it was reported that Taylor has made the shock decision to begin ‘talks’ to play the star role in an upcoming remake of the classic romance flick, The Bodyguard, famously played by Whitney Houston in 1992.
And while fans are on tenterhooks over Taylor’s latest rumoured foray into the acting world, an insider reveals how her friend’s fear that the opportunity could have come at a crucial time for the Love Story singer’s relationship and could jeopardise her future with Travis.
A source tells heat, ‘She said for so long that all she wanted was to fall in love and get married and now that is seemingly right in front of her, a lot of people in her life think taking on a huge movie project right now would be putting her relationship in real jeopardy.
‘If Taylor does sign on to do The Bodyguard it would be such a high-pressure situation and take so much focus and energy, it’s hard to imagine what time she’ll have left for Travis.
They continue, ‘Travis and Taylor are very confident in their connection, but considering how many Hollywood relationships implode, it would be naive not to consider it all.’
After several high-profile relationships including with Calvin Harris, Harry Styles and Tom Hiddleston, Taylor, 35, appeared to have met her all-American prince when she and NFL beefcake Travis Kelce, 35, went public with their romance in October 2023.
Sources have also let slip that Taylor is ‘more in love than ever’ and, following the close of her epic ‘Eras’ tour in December, insiders suggested that 2025 could be the perfect time for Taylor and Travis to spend more time together after being forced apart by Taylor’s busy schedule and Travis’ football season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Just last month, the Kelce family also welcomed a new addition when Travis’ brother Jason and his wife Kylie had their fourth daughter, Finn. At the time, sources told us Taylor had been showering Kylie and her newborn with gifts and that she and Travis had already volunteered for ‘baby-sitting duties’.
But now the insider says this latest golden opportunity could prove too tempting for Taylor, who is unlikely to play ‘cheerleader’ to Travis full-time when the next football season kicks off in September.
They say, ‘Fact is, Travis will be back on the Chiefs this coming season, which means staying put in Kansas City and focusing on his game. And kicking back and doing nothing while Travis plays ball is definitely out of character for Taylor.
‘They already had to get through doing the long-distance thing while she was touring, all they talked about for a year was how they couldn’t wait until they could be together consistently. And now they have just that, and there’s suddenly the possibility that they’ll be putting themselves back in a very similar situation.’
They add, ‘Getting dragged into Hollywood and all the temptation and all the added pressures that come with it certainly has the potential to throw a real wrench in things.’
After tentatively dipping her feet into the acting world when she appeared in the film adaptation of the much-derided musical ‘Cats’ in 2019, the insider says that Hollywood, to Taylor, feels like the one mountain she is yet to conquer.
And after failing to pass a screen test to play the lead on Les Miserables back in 2012, the source says Taylor – who was named the youngest self-made billionaire in the world in 2023 – still feels she has ‘redeem’ herself in the acting world.
They explain, ‘She did not score the hit she wanted with ‘Cats’ so there’s a feeling that she does have a lot to redeem herself for when it comes to her acting chops.
‘In some ways it could be even more challenging because she will have a director to answer to and much longer hours but of course it’s easy to see why she would throw caution to the wind and take the role. It would be massively exciting for her. A lot of people are telling her it’s a once in a lifetime chance and that she has to give it a shot.’
Meanwhile, last week Travis was forced to shut down more rumours that he is set to retire from football and has previously been very open about his desire to pursue his own acting career.
The podcaster, who hosts ‘New Heights’ alongside Jason, has already made his debut in Ryan Murphy’s FX series Grotesquerie last year and hosts the Prime Video game show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? It was also revealed in February that the soccer ace has landed a role in Happy Gilmore 2.
Now the source adds, ‘Travis has been very open about wanting a huge Hollywood career and he’s not the type to worry about what ifs – he’s very big on seizing opportunities.’
Travis’ ‘Carpe Diem’ mantra, the source says, could also prove to be the perfect match to Taylor’s burning ambition, which could see Taylor and Travis become Hollywood’s next golden couple if they carry on their incredibly successful trajectory.
‘Travis will be pushing her to go for it,’ the insider says. ‘They both know this kind of iconic role doesn’t come along very often. It won’t be an easy decision, but knowing how driven Taylor is, Travis wants to have her back. In his view, their relationship is solid enough to withstand the craziness of Hollywood.
‘Of course it will put their relationship to the test, there is no way around that, but they are willing to give it a go and only time will tell.’
