Mets’ Carlos Mendoza Makes Unfortunate Announcement After Diamondbacks Game

Carlos Mendoza's magic touch helped Mets reach NLCS | AP News

On Wednesday night, the New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, dropping their season record to 21-10 through 21 games. Despite a valiant effort in the ninth inning, the Mets were unable to match the Diamondbacks in the final frame. This, combined with a win from the Philadelphia Phillies against the Washington Nationals, shrunk the Mets’ divisional lead to just 3.5 games.

Unfortunately for the Mets, it appears that this wasn’t the worst news they would receive on Wednesday night. Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza updated the status of injured relief pitcher Danny Young, and the prognosis isn’t exactly positive.

Young suffered an elbow injury on Sunday in a game against the Nationals. While the full severity of the injury is not yet known, the Mets may be preparing for the worst.

The 30-year-old veteran has appeared in 10 games for New York this season, pitching to a 4.32 ERA. The former eighth-round pick out of the University of Florida has pitched for three teams in his career, including the Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves. He has a career 4.01 ERA and a 1.440 WHIP.

With the news of Tommy John being considered, Young may end up missing the rest of this season and a chunk of the ‘26 season as well.
