With the 2025 NFL Draft now behind us, Brent Veach and the Kansas City Chiefs’ front office are now turning their attention to the undrafted free agent market. From a pure talent perspective alone, there are always contributors to be found on the open market who, for one reason or another, did not hear their name called during the seven rounds of picks made this past weekend.

One of those players electing to join the Chiefs over interest from other teams is former Texas A&M tight end Tre Watson, and he received a rather significant sum of guaranteed money to do so. Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, Watson will receive a guarantee of $249,000 for signing his camp deal with Kansas City.

After spending three seasons playing for the Fresno State Bulldogs, Watson elected to transfer to College Station for his senior year.

He put up solid numbers in the SEC, recording 21 catches for 280 yards and a touchdown over the course of 13 appearances. In his three previous seasons with Fresno State, Watson was equally effective as he reeled in 56 catches for 592 yards and four touchdowns.

Obviously, this guarantee does not mean that Watson is a lock to make the final roster. However, it does show that the Chiefs had enough interest that they were willing to guarantee him that much to get him into camp. If Watson can show enough to the coaching staff once he hits the field, this could be the avenue to a regular-season spot with the defending AFC Champions.

Either way, this is the type of low-risk, high-reward type of play the Chiefs are in a position to make thanks to all of the work the front office has put in to this point with regard to building this roster.
