The Kansas City Chiefs quickly followed up a successful 2025 NFL Draft by scouring the undrafted free agency market, signing a slew of players who they hope can turn into contributors down the line, whether on the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
They clearly have one of the league’s best rosters, which naturally makes it more difficult for anyone to crack the main group. It’s easier to make a roster when the team is bad, and the Chiefs do not have that problem.
Even still, they’ve offered a rookie minicamp tryout to a local star who fans will be clamoring for all summer.
Excited for the opportunity 🤞🏼 https://t.co/a5h49IMSZu

Chiefs Give Rookie Minicamp Invite to Kansas FB/TE Jared Casey
As confirmed by his personal X account, the Chiefs have extended a rookie minicamp invitation to Kansas Jayhawks fullback/tight end hybrid Jared Casey. He’s been one of the most beloved people in Lawrence, KS for quite some time, serving as a four-year contributor for the Jayhawks with plenty of memorable moments.
Casey became locally famous when he caught the game-winning two-point conversion in an overtime victory over the Texas Longhorns. Despite mostly serving as a blocker, Casey became the state’s most beloved receiver the second that incredible moment happened.
Every KU fan remembers where they were when Jared Casey made the game winning touchdown catch against Texas ⚡️

After over a decade of misery, Casey helped deliver local fans one of their best football memories in years. He only caught 47 passes for 635 yards and 10 TDs during his four-year Kansas career, indicating there’s next-to-no chance of him making the final roster. Even still, it’s a neat opportunity for someone who Chiefs Kingdom can rally around.
At six-feet and 254 pounds, Casey could theoretically serve as a fullback or blocking tight end. Considering how loaded Kansas City’s running back room is though, it’s highly unlikely he catches on in the end.
Casey is someone who pops up on radio and TV commercials and may continue to do so. He’ll always have a job in Lawrence, yet this may be his final chance to continue playing the game he loves. Here’s hoping he makes an unexpected case that the Chiefs can’t refuse.
