Paxton DeLaurent was not selected in the 2025 NFL draft, but he was given an invitation to the Kansas City Chiefs’ rookie minicamp on Sunday, April 27.
The invite is not a full-time contract, but it is a chance for DeLaurent to potentially earn a roster spot.
NFL rookie minicamps are orientations for teams’ recent draft picks, undrafted free agents, and tryout players. Players generally go to meetings, learn playbooks, and participate in various drills. For DeLaurent, it’s a chance to be assessed by the Chiefs up close, in the hopes of earning an NFL contract.
DeLaurent spent much of the offseason rehabbing from a shoulder injury he sustained in the Redhawks’ 2024 season opener. During the offseason, DeLaurent also participated in Mizzou’s Pro Day with fellow SEMO teammate Dorian Anderson, a Pro Day that had scouts from all 32 NFL teams present.
In an Instagram story announcing the news, DeLaurent wrote, “Let’s Go! God is faithful… time to earn it.”
DeLaurent spent three seasons as a SEMO Redhawk, transferring in from Central Methodist University. In Cape Girardeau, DeLaurent threw for a program-record 8,563 career passing yards and 63 career passing touchdowns, also a school record.
The Chiefs rookie minicamp date has not been publicly announced; rookie minicamps are traditionally held within the first couple weekends in May.
