Jacobe Covington will look to shine with Kansas City Chiefs

He’s someone who instantly makes plays anytime he steps foot on the field. Jacobe Covington wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine or Senior Bowl. Had he had been, it’s safe to assume that he would have made a great case in front of scouts to be drafted. All of that will be put behind him for now. It’s often not about when or how you enter the league. Instead, it’s about what a player does when given the opportunity.

Covington will have that, as he was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. Trent McDuffie is a corner who highlights this secondary corps. The now-former Trojan will look to earn his keep as a member of the 53-man roster. Knowing what USC fans know of him, he’ll undoubtedly represent well and make a great case to be on this KC team or invited to another roster during the 2025 season.

With his size and ball skills, it’s clear why an NFL team is adding him to the mix heading into preseason camp. The DB controls his side of the field well and then has a knack for getting his helmet around the football.

Reunion in Kansas City of former Trojans

He will join fellow former UDFA from USC, Christian Roland-Wallace, in the cornerback room. The former teammates will have a lot to potentially connect over. For now, the focus is on continuing to put his best foot forward and make a case to fill one of the CB slots for this upcoming season.

For Covington, the approach will be the same, regardless of what happens next. The three-year Trojan has earned himself the right to be in this position through his efforts. Now, he will know that the same work rate that allowed him to start at USC will be what will lead to him stepping foot on the field during an NFL game.
