The pick is officially in for the Kansas City Chiefs!
The Chiefs have used their pick acquired from the Tennessee Titans in the L’Jarius Sneed trade to address the defensive end position. With the 66th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Louisville DE Ashton Gillotte.
The last time they made a selection at pick No. 66 overall came in the 1980 NFL season when the Chiefs took Texas Tech RB James Hadnot.

Why did Ashton Gillotte make sense for the Chiefs?
The edge rusher position was an underrated long-term need for Kansas City, with BJ Thompson’s status up in the air and George Karlaftis and Charles Omenihu pending free agents in 2026. It also just so happens to be one of the deeper classes in this draft, according to Chiefs GM Brett Veach.
“I think the defensive end is,” Veach said. “So, the defensive line class in general is good, I think that’s probably driven more by the depth at d-end, I think there’s a lot of d-ends.”
This move has me thinking that the Chiefs are hedging their bets on Omenihu and Karlaftis in 2026, while ensuring they don’t need to make a midseason trade for a pass-rusher.
