Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Sends Message to Yankees Fans After Blue Jays’ Win

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to Sign Record-Setting $500 Million, 14-Year Contract Extension: Report - Newsweek

After signing a historic 14-year, $500 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, the spotlight has been magnified on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The 26-year-old superstar has been one of the best players in Major League Baseball since his debut in 2019, accumulating 21.9 bWAR in that span.

While this season he has gotten off to a bit of a slow start, relative to his standards, he looks primed to lead the Blue Jays to the postseason for just the fourth time in his career. Additionally, his goal will be to help Toronto win its first playoff series since the 2016 ALDS.

But before he can do that, he will have to endure the boos from Yankee stadium. When discussing his reception with the fans in New York to reporters on Friday, Guerrero shared his thoughts on the matter.

“You never hear the fans boo a bad ballplayer,” he said via Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

On Friday, Guerrero’s Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees by a score of 4-2. This win brought Toronto’s season record to 13-13 and brought them within two games of the Yankees’ lead atop the American League East division.

Guerrero played one of his better games this season on Friday. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and smashed his second homer of the season.

The son of MLB Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr. has been in the spotlight since his days as a superstar prospect in the Blue Jays system. The negative reception from a division rival such as New York should come as no surprise for the four-time All-Star.
