.The Kansas City Chiefs addressed their biggest roster need during free agency when they signed left tackle Jaylon Moore.
Kansas City may very well continue to stockpile at the LT position during the 2025 NFL Draft this weekend, but it looks like Moore is going to get every opportunity to get the first crack at the starting job.
Moore spent the first four years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, backing up future Hall of Famer Trent Williams. When given the opportunity to start, Moore has played well. He has 12 career starts to his name, five of them coming this past season.
While speaking to the media on Tuesday, Chiefs center Creed Humphrey raved about Moore, who he spent some time with during the Senior Bowl back in 2021.
“Jaylon is a great guy,” Humphrey said. “We were actually in the Senior Bowl together during the whole draft process. I was with him for a week down there. He’s got a great mentality, a great attitude, a great work ethic, and he’s a talented player. We’re excited about having him in the room. He played with (Chiefs left guard) Mike Caliendo in college. So, there’s familiar faces with him here. Trey (Chiefs right guard Trey Smith) was a part of that Senior Bowl class too. So it’s good that he has familiar faces and stuff. Now for us, it’s just teaching him the ropes, helping him with the study game, the playbook, things like that. Then also just showing him how we work here, and showing him what we do and how to prepare, and how to take your game to the next level. So, we’re excited about him. He’s a heck of a player.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also chimed in on Moore as he spoke to the media on Wednesday.
“This year we’re trying to solidify the group (the offensive line),” Mahomes said. “Bringing in a guy like Jaylon Moore, a guy that’s played some snaps and learned under Trent Williams, that’s someone that we have big expectations for.”
All eyes will be on Moore during OTAs and training camp. The Chiefs had a revolving door at LT in 2024, with four different players making starts at the position. K.C. hasn’t had a long-term solution at LT since Eric Fisher, who played for the team from 2013-2020. Still just 27-years-old, if Moore takes the job by the horns and plays well in 2025, he could receive a big contract extension.
