Dodgers Report: MLB Insider Provides Massive Update on Luis Robert Trade to Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers may need to look into a change in center field.

Center fielder Andy Pages, who is in his second MLB season, has struggled offensively and defensively in his first season as a regular starter for the Dodgers.

Tommy Edman can move to center field but has been playing second base, replacing utility man Hyeseong Kim.

Kim’s spring training was off to a slow start, so the Dodgers optioned him to Triple-A to give him time to adjust to MLB.

Now, Los Angeles either needs an upgrade in center field or a second baseman that can take over for Edman.

The Chicago White Sox are reportedly planning to trade All-Star center fielder Luis Robert Jr. this season. Robert is a 2020 AL Gold Glove winner and a 2023 AL Silver Slugger.

“I do (think he’ll get traded this year),” MLB insider Bob Nightengale recently said to Doug McKain on Dodgers Dougout Live. “He’s got two options years at $20 million a piece. They think they can trade him easily. There is way to get top value for him, they need him to stay healthy.”

Although Los Angeles could use a stronger center fielder, Nightengale believes the Dodgers do not need Robert. The 27-year-old has seen a progressive decline in his offensive numbers every season since 2021.

However, he acknowledges that center fielders are scarce in the trade market. Therefore, Robert might be one of the few options the Dodgers will have.

“The Dodgers don’t need him right now. Andy Pages has been kind of a rollercoaster. We’ll see what happens,” Nightengale said to McKain. “There’s so few center fielders out there I think teams will say, ‘You know what, if you’re gonna trade him, we’re gonna listen.’ But he hasn’t lived up to projections or expectations now in a couple years.”

Robert is currently slashing .151/.267/.260 through the first 21 games of the season, which is worse than Pages’ .179/.286/.328 slash line. However, Robert is a better defender and has proven to be an All-Star caliber player.
