Update!! Details of Miguel Amaya’s tying homer off Tanner Scott will make Dodgers fans furious

Los Angeles Dodgers v Chicago Cubs

The Dodgers suffered a brutal walk-off loss to the Cubs on Tuesday night after a dramatic extra-innings showdown at Wrigley Field.

Dustin May gave up five runs in the first inning, then the Cubs tacked two more on, but the Dodgers worked their way back up to take a three-run lead by the top of the seventh.

The Cubs chipped away at that lead courtesy of a two-run homer from Kyle Tucker, but the odds were still in the Dodgers’ favor at the bottom of the ninth, with Chicago down to their last out and LA’s $72 million closer on the mound in Tanner Scott.

Miguel Amaya, former top prospect for the Cubs who looked like he was shaping up to be a bust after his 2024 season, stepped up to the plate.

Scott threw a slider to Amaya for a called strike one, but then he threw a meatball right down the heart of the zone. A 97.3 MPH fastball was crushed and then was gone, tying the game and sending things to extras.

That ball was deposited straight into the netting overhang above the center field ivy at Wrigley — without it, Tommy Edman probably could’ve made the catch.

What’s more, its 388-foot distance made it a homer in exactly one ballpark. Infuriating.

Miguel Amaya’s game-tying homer off of Dodgers’ Tanner Scott on Tuesday night was a homer in 1/30 ballparks

The Cubs ended up walking things off in the bottom of the 10th, when the Dodgers — confoundingly — sent out reliever Noah Davis to make his Dodgers debut.

It made some sense, given the bullpen usage so far; LA had sent out five relievers after May was pulled after five innings, and the Dodgers are missing one of their highest-leverage arms in Blake Treinen, who was moved to the 15-day IL on April 19.

Just two days before the Cubs opener, the Dodgers were forced to use six relievers after a short start for Tyler Glasnow.

But sending in Davis, who pitched just 20 innings for the Rockies last season, made it feel like the Dodgers were just giving up.

Amaya’s homer completely took all of the wind out of the Dodgers’ sails, and then Ian Happ only needed to see a single pitch before he was scoring the ghost runner from second on an RBI single.

Sure, you win some, you lose some, but the fact that Amaya’s homer would’ve been an easy fly out anywhere other than the friendly confines is a really tough pill to swallow.
