The Miami Heat are in the midst of a playoff run, and as the No. 10 seed in the Eastern Conference, have won their way in to a tough matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Now without Jimmy Butler, they will rely on big scoring from Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, Damion Mitchell, and rookie big man Kel’el Ware.
During the NBA Playoffs, various awards get announced, such as MVP, Rookie of the Year, Sixth-Man of the Year, and more.
The Heat have announced that Bam Adebayo has been named one of the five finalists for the NBA’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award.
Adebayo will join CJ McCollum (New Orleans Pelicans), Harrison Barnes (San Antonio Spurs), Chris Boucher (Toronto Raptors), and Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics) as the five finalists for this award.
The NBA stated that “the recipient of the annual award receives the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar trophy and recognizes a current NBA player for pursuing social justice and advancing Abdul-Jabbar’s life mission to engage, empower and drive equality for individuals and groups who have been historically disadvantaged. The NBA Social Justice Champion will be announced during the NBA Playoffs and receive $100,000 from the NBA to benefit a justice focused organization of his choosing.”
The league implemented this award in the 2020-21 season, with Carmelo Anthony, Reggie Bullock, Stephen Curry, and Karl-Anthony Towns being the four past winners of this prestigious honor.
The Bam, Books and Brotherhood Foundation that Adebayo started made significant contributions, including more than $50,000 donated to those in need.
His extended efforts to provide for his and others’ communities while being a professional in the NBA is nothing short of exceptional, and a much deserved honor being a finalist.
