Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiving corps struggled to produce on a game-to-game basis. Some of the issues stemmed from the injuries the Chiefs’ receivers faced all season.

Their biggest loss happened during their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers when Rashee Rice tore his LCL.

Rice’s injury put him on injured reserve for the rest of the 2024 season, taking out Kansas City’s best pass-catcher. The 25-year-old is expected back for the start of 2025, but his return has yet to be officially disclosed.

That said, head coach Andy Reid provided an update on Rice and tight end Jared Wiley during the team’s first day back on Monday.

According to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, Reid said there is no set timetable for either of their returns, but ” they are doing well”.

Although Reid’s comments don’t provide much of an update, it’s nice to hear that Rice is doing well. Typically, it takes six months to recover from LCL surgery.

Rice had surgery on his LCL on October 14th, which means six months from that date would have been April 14th.

However, recovery time is different for each individual person, and it seems to be taking Rice a bit longer.

Furthermore, even after his LCL is healed, the 25-year-old will have to get back into football shape.

While that may only take a few weeks, that also adds time to his recovery process.

Nevertheless, when Rice returns, he is expected to help the Chiefs’ offense return to form. Prior to his injury last season, Rice was one of the best receivers in the game, racking up 24 receptions on 29 targets for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games.

Getting a player who is able to attack all areas of the field, like Rice, will open up so much for Patrick Mahomes. With that in mind, hopefully, Reid will have a bigger update on Rice soon.
