Heat Head Coach Pinpoints How Cavs Beat Them In Game 1

Erik Spoelstra: Miami Heat agree to 8-year, $120 million deal with head coach, per ESPN report | CNN

Coach Erik Spoelstra is no stranger to the NBA Playoffs. From running star-studded teams to being the underdogs going up against top-end talent, he has experienced all kinds of tough situations in the postseason. So, this Miami Heat loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 was just a normal day at work for him.

The next thing that the Heat head honcho needs to do is adjust in order to prolong their NBA Playoffs run. Coach Erik Spoelstra is known to adapt against any team, and the Cavs will not be any different.

He outlines what weak points the Cavs took advantage of and what the Heat could do to improve, via Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.

“You get to the playoffs, there are going to be dynamic offensive teams, and they have guys that drive and break you down off the dribble. They can also just shoot pull-up threes, and they’re very good spot-up shooters, as well. So that’s the task, and it’s up to us to figure out how to beat that,” Spoelstra said.

The Heat struggled with exactly that when they went up against the Cavs. Ty Jerome, Donovan Mitchell, and Darius Garland all torched them to combine for 85 of Cleveland’s 121 total points.

Defensively, there are a lot of adjustments that need to be made on the perimeter. Again, this is not new territory for the Heat. They have already been the eighth seed once and pulled off the upset to reach great heights in the NBA Playoffs.
