The Kansas City Chiefs’ move for Jaylon Moore in free agency hasn’t been as well-received as many would have hoped.
With just 12 starts across four years, Moore comes to the Chiefs after playing backup to Trent Williams in San Francisco, so one would think that Jaylon would have picked up some habits and traits.
Seen as a band-aid move by some, and even several mock drafts have the Chiefs selecting another left tackle in the first round of the draft, which again, points to uncertainty at the position.
But, head coach Andy Reid has detailed why the franchise chose to go after Moore in free agency.
“He was a good football player there, when he had opportunities there in San Francisco, he was a good player,” Reid said. “We thought he would be a nice addition to our offensive line.”
The two-year deal for Moore tells us a lot, and with the Chiefs thought to be looking at more line help in the draft, this does feel like a short-term option for an offensive line that gave up a total of 47 sacks last season.
Time will tell if Moore can be “that” guy for the Chiefs, but when you have Patrick Mahomes back there, protecting him is of the utmost importance, and some are skeptical of Moore’s ability to do it consistently.
Sometimes, all players need is a chance to showcase their skills, and in 2025, Moore, after four seasons, will get the chance.
But can he take it with both hands? Putting it bluntly, he has to.
