TRADE REPORT: Chiefs Named Among Front-Runners to Reunite With $90 Million Pro Bowl Star

The Kansas City Chiefs lacked explosion across the skill positions last season, save for rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

That didn’t stop the franchise from reaching its third consecutive Super Bowl, though it was a meaningful reason — perhaps the most meaningful aside from the offensive line — that Kansas City didn’t win that game and hoist yet another Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Chiefs have bet on quarterback Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid and the front office’s ability to build a consistent winner around them through the draft and value trades/free-agent plays.

But the time may be coming for the team to pay some real money for a bonafide superstar pass-catcher, as tight end Travis Kelce appears to be nearing the end of his eventual Hall of Fame career.

“[Hill] is effectively in a contract year, as he won’t be back on his $51.9 million cap number in 2026. However, his base salary for this season is only $10 million, making him very tradeable if the Dolphins change their mind about entertaining trade offers for another aging core player,” Xie wrote on Friday, April 18. “Would Hill’s original team trade Xavier Worthy and a second-rounder to reunite the Cheetah and Patrick Mahomes?”

Moving on from Worthy wouldn’t be ideal, but if all it took from Kansas City was the second-year wideout and a second-round pick to bring Hill back into the fold, the Chiefs would have to at least consider it.

Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Miami is looking for at least two first-rounders before the franchise will even consider dealing Hill, but that could be as much negotiating strategy as it is actual position.

Hill — an eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro — will almost certainly have to renegotiate his $90 million deal post-2025, if not scrap the 2026 portion altogether for an entirely new agreement.

That lends itself to the possibility that Kansas City could trade for the 31-year-old and mitigate his cost on a multiyear extension moving forward.

Hill led the NFL in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13) in 2023, following that up with 959 yards and six scores this year in a season marred by injury to Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa.
