Chiefs Aim For ‘Stability’ With Free Agent Signing But Jury’s Still Out

How Confident is the Chiefs Front Office in Jaylon Moore?

The offensive line was one area the Kansas City Chiefs knew they needed improvement in the roster this offseason.

After a 2024 season that saw Patrick Mahomes sacked the most times in his career (47), coupled with how easily the line was sliced through in the Super Bowl loss, it was clear the Chiefs needed a solution.

That led general manager Brett Veach to sign San Francisco 49ers backup left tackle Jaylon Moore on a two-year deal to help sort out the problematic position for the AFC champs.

“I don’t think it’s a secret that we want to get some stability there at the left tackle position,” Veach said of Moore. “He’s athletic, he’s a smart kid, and we did a lot of work on him during the pre-draft process years ago…Credit to him that when he had a chance to go out there and play last year, he did a really good job. The next step for him is maintaining that level of play, but we’re excited to add him and to hopefully provide some stability to the left side of the line.”

Stability is key here.

Last season, Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris both tried their hands at starting left tackle, but both produced underwhelming and inconsistent performances.

This led head coach Andy Reid to shift star guard Joe Thuney out to left tackle, and then have Mike Caliendo slot in at guard, which didn’t exactly produce good results.

That chopping and changing meant the offensive line’s productivity took a hit and culminated in the horror Super Bowl performance against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Is Moore the answer to that?

The jury is still out.
