Francisco Lindor played the part of the hero on Friday night. After struggling to start the season, Lindor has seemingly turned a corner and now holds a seven-game hitting-streak.
Lindor played his first game with the New York Mets in 2021 after being acquired via trade from the Cleveland Guardians. Despite struggling in his first season with the Mets, Lindor has returned to form, showing the baseball world why the Mets signed him to a 10-year, $341 million deal at the start of the 2021 MLB season.
A parallel can be drawn from Lindor’s start to his Mets’ tenure and his start to this season. And Friday night, with the game tied at four against the St. Louis Cardinals, Lindor stepped into the batter’s box with a chance to prove his worth yet again.
Lindor did exactly that, turning around a Ryan Fernandez fastball, sending it into the upper deck in the right field stands. The 39,627 in attendance immediately erupted, sending an epic celebration into the night sky in Queens.
As Lindor rounded the bases for his first walk-off home run in a Mets uniform, the Mets social media department went to work, sending a four-word message, letting the world know exactly how they feel about their shortstop.

“Man, we love Francisco,” the Mets official X account posted.
While Lindor has three walk-off home runs in his 11-year-career, Friday night’s blast was his first with the Mets.
Friday night’s heroics, in game No. 20 for the Mets this season, may not carry the same weight as Lindor’s crucial home run against the Atlanta Braves that sent them to the 2024 postseason, but it could be vital come the end of the season.
The Mets sit atop the National League East Division with a record of 13-7, just one game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies. On Saturday, the Mets will seek their third consecutive victory against the Cardinals.
Lindor has put up historic numbers since joining the Mets. He’s one of only six shortstops in MLB history to post a 30-30 season (31 home runs and 31 stolen bases, 2023). Lindor currently owns a .263 batting average with two home runs, eight RBIs, and two stolen bases.
