JJ Redick revealed that Bronny James and Shake Milton helped the LA Lakers prepare for their playoff series against the Timberwolves by playing the role of Anthony Edwards in practice.
Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Bronny James is stepping up to help his team prepare for their first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves by taking on the role of Anthony Edwards in practice.
LA Lakers head coach JJ Redick shared that Bronny and veteran Shake Milton played the part of Edwards on the scout team during Wednesday’s practice. Redick acknowledged, however, that this kind of scouting is rare in the NBA today.
“It’s not part of NBA culture anymore to do such scouting,” Redick noted. “When I was early in my career, not playing, I was on the scouting team every single game in the regular season.
“Always relished a chance to be [Manu] Ginobili, D-Wade, JR Smith, and take all those shots,” he added. “It’s very uncommon you do that during the regular season. I don’t even know if these guys are used to that.”
Even though this type of preparation is uncommon today, the Timberwolves have also reportedly used Joe Ingles to mimic Luka Doncic in their practices. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have asked Ben Simmons to replicate Nikola Jokic’s style of play.
The Lakers and Timberwolves will tip off Game 1 in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
