The Chiefs may have fallen just short of bringing another Lombardi Trophy to Kansas City in 2024, but still had a great year nonetheless.
Despite significant injuries to multiple key players, the Chiefs set a new franchise record for most wins in a single season with 15. They lost just two games, one of which was due to them resting their starters in preparation of the playoffs.
Kansas City beat the Houston Texans in the divisional round, then the Buffalo Bills to secure its fifth AFC Championship in six years, before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. The cherry on top of all that is this statistic, which was dug up by CBS NFL reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala:
Prepping for next week's #GreenBay #NFLDraft trip and just came across this insane note from the @NFLonCBS research squad:
In 2024, five teams needed to start four different LTs. Four of the teams went a combined 17-51. The fifth team was the #Chiefs. Who went 15-2.— Aditi Kinkhabwala (@AKinkhabwala) April 15, 2025
Left tackle is one of the most crucial positions in all of football, and the fact that the Chiefs were able to win 15 games despite starting four different players there is just how Aditi described it – insane. What makes it even more astonishing is the fact that their starting left guard, Joe Thuney, was ultimately able to make the switch at the end of the season and play pretty well all things considered.
At the end of the day, K.C. having as much success as it did despite the turnstile at LT can be attributed to its leaders. On the field captains such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and defensive tackle Chris Jones do a great job of picking up the slack when times are tough and keeping their teammates on track.
Last but not least is the Chiefs’ coaching staff, which is full of longtime veterans such as Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo, Matt Nagy, and Dave Toub. Nobody is better at keeping a calm and focused demeanor through tough situations than Reid, and Spagnuolo has done a tremendous job getting the most out if his young talent on defense. K.C. will continue to be a powerhouse for as long as these leaders stay around.
