The Kansas City Chiefs have made some big moves this offseason, including signing free agent offensive tackle Jaylon Moore (two years, $30 million) and cornerback Kristian Fulton (two years, $20 million).
However, for as much talent brought in, they’ve also seen several star players leave, with one of the biggest being safety Justin Reid, who spent the previous three years with the Chiefs but signed a three-year, $31.5 million deal with the New Orleans Saints.
That’s why, in an article for Pro Football & Sports Network, Mark Stolte suggests that Kansas City should sign free agent safety and one-time Pro Bowler Jordan Poyer.
“In years past, Jordan Poyer would have been way too expensive for the Chiefs,” Stolte wrote. “With his current state of play and the many injuries, they could take a risk on him for pennies on the dollar.”

Last season with the Miami Dolphins, Poyer struggled in pass coverage, as he was targeted 50 times and allowed 33 receptions, 490 yards, two touchdowns and a 111.2 passer rating.
However, that’s still not much of a downgrade for the Chiefs, as his numbers aren’t too far from Reid, who in 2024 allowed 48 receptions, 502 yards, four touchdowns and a 108.4 passer rating on 62 targets.
There’s no doubt he could also prove to be a cheap option for the Chiefs as Stolte suggests, because despite making $45.9 million in career earnings, all Poyer made in 2024 was $1.9 million, and it’s unlikely that number makes a big jump.
