REPORT: Dodgers analyst reignites trade rumors around infield star after hot start to 2025

Washington Nationals v Toronto Blue Jays

Ever since the Toronto Blue Jays signed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a whopping $500 million extension, questions have begun to arise regarding Bo Bichette’s future.

The 27-year-old infielder is set to become a free agent when his current contract expires at the end of the 2025 season; is he as good as gone in Toronto?

If this is Bichette’s final season with the Blue Jays, he will be a prime midseason trade candidate, and the Los Angeles Dodgers will almost certainly come calling.

This speculation is nothing new, as Bichette and the Dodgers have been linked in trade rumors for quite some time now; but the Guerrero extension could really be the trigger that finally sets serious trade talks in motion.

Dodgers analyst reignites trade rumors around infield star Bo Bichette after hot start to 2025

It’s no secret that the Dodgers need a better option at shortstop than Mookie Betts. Trading for Bichette could theoretically allow Betts to move to second and utility man Tommy Edman to move to the outfield, all while maximizing the production from the Dodgers’ batting lineup.

Bichette is also boosting his own trade value with a hot start to the season for the Blue Jays. In 61 trips to the plate, he is hitting .291 with four doubles and eight RBI. He has struck out just six times.

Dodgers analyst Blake Harris recently posted on X, “I think it’s time we re-open those Bo Bichette discussions,” accompanied by a screenshot of the Blue Jays infielder’s batting and fielding percentile rankings from Baseball Savant.

According to his most up-to-date numbers from Baseball Savant, Bichette ranks in the 90th percentile or higher among all MLB hitters in expected weighted on-base average (.428), expected batting average (.353), expected slugging percentage (.592), launch angle sweet spot percentage (46), whiff percentage (15.3) and strikeout percentage (9.8)

As the Dodgers continue their quest for back-to-back World Series titles, Bichette is certainly a piece who could help them get there.

The two-time All-Star had a down year in 2024, but he has a history of being a productive hitter and a solid fielder. If the Blue Jays aren’t willing to commit to him long-term, the Dodgers would be wise to at least explore the possibility of a trade.
