We have heard all offseason that the Kansas City Chiefs need to bulk up their offensive line with starting-caliber players to add depth to the position.
With Jaylon Moore signed in free agency, but Joe Thuney walking as a cap casualty in sa trade to the Chicago Bears, the Chiefs still have question marks over the line.
But for many, that can be fixed in the draft, which is just two weeks away, and we have seen the Chiefs linked with several prospects, such as Josh Conerly Jr. and Josh Simmons.
However, there is another prospect that, if the football gods allow, could be just what the Chiefs are looking for. For USA Today’s Samuel Teets, that prospect is Texas stud Kelvin Banks Jr.
“Texas Longhorns offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. entered the 2024 college football season widely viewed as a top ten selection,” Teets writes. “After another year of tape, there’s a chance that Banks drops into striking range for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2025 NFL draft. He could reset Kansas City’s offensive line and finally solidify the left tackle position.”
If Banks is indeed selected, we imagine that a training camp battle will ensue between him and Moore.
More of a run blocker than pass protector, Banks Jr. could come in and be a starter on Day 1 if the Chiefs see his potential, with NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein stating that Banks Jr. will be a long-term starter in the league at either tackle or guard.
There is position flex, which we know coaches love. If Moore can hold down the tackle spot, Banks Jr. could slot in at guard if the stars align.
Either way, the Chiefs need more bodies in the offensive line room, and in Banks Jr., they can shore up either the tackle or guard position for the next decade.
