Patrick Mahomes is building a Hall of Fame career for himself in the NFL and back in 2020, he gave credit to quarterback Aaron Rodgers for being a good football role model for him as he entered the league.
As part of a segment for GQ, Mahomes sat down and responded to social media posts about him. Someone asked if Mahomes had won a second Super Bowl, would he be better than Rodgers? It was then Mahomes said he makes similar plays to Rodgers, especially earlier in Rodgers’ career.
“So I don’t know if a lot of people remember the beginning of Aaron Rodgers’ career, but I mean, he went to the Super Bowl and made a lot of the same and more throws that I made, I mean he’s one of the best all time, he’s someone that I take a lot of stuff from. So, to me, I’m just trying to get somewhere close by the end of my career to where he is. So, to be around that by the end of my career, that would be the goal.”-Patrick Mahomes said via GQ in July 2020 (TS 0:35)
Mahomes said that he hoped to be even close to the type of quarterback Rodgers was by the end of his career. While Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP, he won just one Super Bowl in 2010 NFL season, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Mahomes maintained neutral political stance despite family’s allegiance
Mahomes has also dealt with some off-field headlines regarding his family the last few years, whether it was his father or brother being arrested or most recently his family’s political allegiances. His mother Randi, brother Jackson and wife Brittany all showed their support for Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election.
While being featured in TIME Magazine earlier in 2024, Mahomes made it clear that he wants to use his platform to encourage others to vote, not influence whom they should vote for.
“I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a particular president. I want people to use their voice, believe in whoever they believe in. I want them to do their research.”-Mahomes said in TIME
"I'd like to raise a glass to a new era in sports. An era when the women's game is finally getting the attention it deserves," said Patrick Mahomes in his TIME100 Gala toast. pic.twitter.com/roJt43tFYv
